Loughran on the Divinity School

William Loughran: It varies from school to school, but I would say, far and away, the vast majority of the students in divinity schools in this country and in the western world, are preparing for some form of ministerial work . It may be the priesthood or Christian ministry or even the rabbinate in the Jewish tradition.

Inside the Twisted Steeple

In 1986, Ari Goldman, a reporter for The New York Times, enrolled for one year at the Harvard Divinity School. The first Orthodox Jewish reporter ever at The Times, Goldman hoped to explore his relationship with God, gain a scholarly religious background for his articles, and get a sense of academic life at the nation's premier divinity school.

What Is the Teaching College?

The new president of Dartmouth College, historian James Wright, takes office amid a general sense of happy anticipation, but in his first extended statement after being chosen by the Trustees he made remarks that cause some to worry. He said, with some emphasis, that Dartmouth College, despite its name "is a research university."

Ruggers Take on Alumni

Dartmouth scored eight tries to beat the New England Collegiate All-Stars 52-3 at Sachem Field. The Indian ruggers were drunk with victory from the past weekend, but they woke up the next to an alumni headache who instead of giving aspirin, handed the DRFC a sobering 38-7 loss.

In this first collaboration, they wrote and directed a play based on the literature and letters of some of the most prominent intellects of the first quarter of the twentieth century. However, the seamlessness of the show gives it the appearance of a finely tuned piece of art crafted by veterans of the New York stage.
