Indian Spring Sports in Review

Men's Crew: Early season victories highlighted the men's crew season. The Varsity Lightweight squad defeated Harvard for only the second time in history in a dual race. The Varsity Heavyweights defeated Yale and had a close battle with Brown, nearly defeating the Bears. Overall, both teams had a good season and were able to bring many races back to the Connecticut this year.
Women's Crew: Like the men's teams, the crew team's season was also highlighted by the early season with a victory over UNH, MIT, and Smith at Cambridge. The rest of the season was marked by strong competition inside and outside of the Ivy League.
Men's Golf: Co-captains Lee Birchall '02 and Andrew Piscacano '02 led the golfers this spring. Lee Birchall had the best showing for the team's spring campaign and became the first golfer in Dartmouth history to be named All-Ivy four consecutive years. The season was highlighted with a third place finish at the Ivy League Championships.
Women's Golf: Vivian Lee '03 captained the women golfers. Shannon Rogers '04 shot the lowest score overall for the team. The highlight for the female golfers came at the Northeast Championships with a 9th place finish.
Baseball: John Velosky '02 and Matt Klentak '02 captained the team. The team placed many players on the All-Ivy Teams. First Team awards went to Mike Mileusnic '03, Ed Lucas '04, and Scott Shirrell '04. Second Team awards went to Tim Grant '04 and Nick Peay '05. Velosky received an Honorable Mention. Overall, the team finished 21-20, (9—11 Ivy) making it the third consecutive that the team has won over 20 games in a season.
Softball: Co-captains by Carla Guigliano '02 and Kristin King '02 led the team this spring. The team placed four players on the All-Ivy list. Sarah Damon '02 earned First Team All-Ivy, while Lisa Caruso '04, Jodee Thompson '05, and Kisa Brannen '03 earned Honorable Mentions. The team finished the season at 26— 7, (6—8 Ivy). One notable game for the team was their victory against Holy Cross, in which the team tallied its 24th win of the season, the second highest in school history.
Men's Lacrosse: Conor Price '02 and Anatole Wedmid '02 were co-captains. Wedmid was also named to the All-Ivy Honorable Mention. The team finished 6—7, (0—6 Ivy). An 8-7 come from behind victory against Hartford highlighted the spring campaign.
Women's Lacrosse: The team was captained by Kate Cuneo '02 and Jen Newitt '02. Both captains earned First Team All-Ivy honors. Alison Moulin '02 earned Second Team All-Ivy honors and Rowan Smith '04 earned an Honorable Mention. In addition to First Team All-Ivy, Jen Newitt was also MVP, All-Region, and First Team All-America. The team finished the season at 10—6, (4—3 Ivy) with a 6—5 victory over the female laxers of Duke, who ranked 7th in the nation at the time.
Men's Tennis: The team was captained by Parashar Ranade '02 and Jeff Sloves '02. Sloves and Drew Dinkmeyer '04 earned First Team All-Ivy honors in doubles play. The team ended its season at 14-10, (3—4 Ivy). One major victory for the squad was a win over Nebraska, a nationally ranked team.
Women's Tennis: Sarita Yardi '02 and Carly Bashleben '02 were co-captains. The pair also earned First Team All-Ivy honors in doubles play. Yardi also earned Second Team All-Ivy honors for singles play. The team finished 14—10, (2—5 Ivy). The team defeated Boston College, a nationally-ranked team.
Men's Track: Taylor Smith '02, Jason Taylor '02, and Jeff Guenette '03 were captains. The team placed many people at the outdoor Heptagonal Championships. Tyler Haney '03, Tom McArdle '03, Bryce LaPierre '02, Mustafa Abdur-Rahim '04, Ahmad Abdur-Rahim '04, Guenette, Brian McCarthy '05, and Marc Hermer '02 all scored points. The team's season was marked with a victory over Harvard and Brown.
Women's Track: Shaina Damm '02, Dagny Dingman '02, and Lara Niell '02 were the captains. Cecily Garber '03, Jessie Allen-Young '03, Niell, Dingman, Ryan Fagan '02, Devon Haskell '03, Sarah Daoust '03, Meagan Verdeyen '03, and Damm all scored at the Heptagonal Games for the women's team. The team's season was highlighted by a home victory over New Hampshire and Vermont.
