Barrett's MixologyBy G. Rollo Begley | Monday, April 26, 2004 Bluegrass Cocktail 1 1/2 oz Bourbon Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. ![]() I was first introduced to this cocktail well north of anything resembling bluegrass. My inquiries were met simply with the reply that it was a southern import, and I could get no further details on the story behind this delight. I had just finished several days of hard sailing, so I made myself very comfortable in the nearest bar. My comrades, all of whom grew up sailing, quickly got themselves stuck into all of the local rum drinks. Never particularly one for rum, sodomy, or the lash, I ordered myself a bourbon, but instantly realized that this was inappropriate. This was an occaison for something a little more festive; tropical even. Luckily, the bartender knew his trade and was able to find an appropriate drink using my libation of choice, and we all talked the night away with stories of increasingly dubious credibility. |
