Gays Protest HealthA small group of gay activists protested in Hanover last Friday against the Food and Drug Administration's decision to prohibit sexually active homosexual men from donating sperm. ![]() The Dartmouth Review —Gay activists spoil the view of the Hanover Inn.— The FDA said its decision was intended to isolate populations with a higher risk of HIV, the virus which causes AIDS. Gay activists counter that the decision is intended to discriminate against their lifestyle. One amusing sign sought to use the letters "FDA" as an acronym for, "Fight Donation Adversity," whatever that means. Another sign proclaimed that "Gay Doesn't Equal HIV," an astute observation, while another demonstrator's sign asserted that he did not have AIDS. Many passers-by approached by The Dartmouth Review believed the group to be protesting discrimination in blood donations, particularly since two participants' shirts appeared to be streaked in blood. A week-long Red Cross blood drive concluded Friday afternoon. Distracting from their message was the weekly anti-war protest by local middle school students, which was staged a few feet away. |
