Moose Spotted Leaving Mike Lord's House

Friday, October 7, 2005

A bull moose was sighted last Saturday in East Wheelock, creating something of a disturbance in the normally serene cluster. The moose, concluded by the residents of the cluster to be an adolescent male, was first spotted at roughly 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of East Wheelock and South Park Streets, near the apartment of East Wheelock Community Director Mike Lord. He then proceeded around Morton, McCulloch and Zimmerman Halls before coming to rest under a clump of trees, a throng of East Wheelock residents in tow. Two Safety and Security officers, attracted by the commotion, arrived at the scene and attempted to take charge of the situation by admonishing the students to disperse, shouting at the moose and beating the trees on which he was feasting. Finding that these efforts produced little effect, one officer noted that if the moose did not soon leave voluntarily, it might become necessary to shoot him. At this point the assembled students were successfully disbanded. The moose is presumed to have returned safely to his home.
