Why Won't the Faculty Stay?

"No administrator ever attended the class nor reviewed any of the student work. A week later the Dean of Faculty informed the students that anyone unhappy with their grade could have it erased and be given a 'credit' for the course."

The Appleton-Folt Correspondence

"First they came for the music faculty and I did not speak out because I was not a musician. Then they came for the psychologists and I did not speak out because I was not a psychologist. Then they came for the biologists and I did not speak out because I was not a biologist. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me."

Dartmouth's Culture of Drinking

The unspoken protocols: for serving beer (brothers first, then friends of brothers, then freshman girls), public urination (generally fine in your own house), and Greeks' fascination with vomiting on each other (highly encouraged).

Town, College Weigh Tubestock Changes

Whether it is under-age, of-age, in public, in private, beer from a can, or vodka from a water bottle, drinking will not stop simply because a Norwich selectman decides it should.

Marsalis and the Academy Jazz Up Hop

It's a rare day when I get to things before the last minute. But certain things by sheer dint of their value or importance force me out of my modus operandus. Such was the case with purchasing tickets for two of this season's musical offerings at the Hopkins Center for the Performing Arts.

Rugby Advances in Playoffs

With less than five minutes to play, the Northeastern wing committed a vicious unsportsmanlike penalty as he stomped on the head of eight-man Joe Killefer.

Football Stumbles, Soccer Surges

After a strong showing Homecoming weekend in a 17-6 victory over Columbia, Dartmouth Football lost the next Saturday in a tough 42-14 loss to Harvard in Cambridge.

Even though Halloween has come and gone, what you will read in this issue ofThe Dartmouth Review may frighten and horrify you. While we are not featuring any reviews of witch-hunting manuals this issue, [see TDR 7/22/2005] the story of Dean of the Faculty Carol Folt's and Associate Dean for Humanities Leonore Grenoble's abuses of power may shock you all the same. Young children, pregnant women, and those of faint heart are urged not to read further.
