Barrett’s MixologyBy Daniel P. Killeen | Friday, January 12, 2007 Sloe Gin Fizz 1 oz Sloe Gin Pour sloe gin and lemon juice over ice in old fashioned glass. Fill with soda. Garnish with cucumber stick or lemon peel. It was only a few days ago in my routine inquiring of a fine lass that I asked her favorite libation. Her response was shocking. A sloe gin fizz. I thought maybe some flowery drink such as a daiquiri or pina colada. But a sloe gin fizz? I had never heard of such a thing. This simple response was not going to do. Upon further questioning, I was told of a concoction that combined the sluggish cousin of juniper berry ferment with lemon and club soda. This not tickling my taste buds, I took some initiative and demanded that we find one right away. We headed back to her place(always a good thing), and she proceeded to mix a few up. Upon grabbing the glass with condensation dripping, I didn’t really know what to expect. However, once I lifted the drink to my lips and got a taste; I knew I had found a new counterpart. I was hooked. Needless to say, a conversation that began simply enough had gotten me back to her pad; I became inebriated on the new find and let nature take its course. |
