R.I.P. Christopher Pearson ’00

It is with great sadness that The Dartmouth Review announces the early death of one of its alumni, Mr. Christopher Pearson ’00. To commemorate Mr. Pearson, the editors have reproduced his review of Two Lucky People—the memoirs of economist Milton Friedman, who also just recently passed away.

Congressmen Hangout

When Representative Hodes’s two-year term is up, he is expected to go back to singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” to throngs of adoring children.

Sustainability Ad Absurdum: What’s This All About?

Casual support for the nebulous goal of sustainability is quite en vogue among large swathes of the campus population, from crunchy Collis rats to sorority girls searching for a feel-good cause to champion.

Comparing the Mission Statements

Editor’s Note: Presented below are Dartmouth’s two Mission Statements, first the present one, followed by President Wright’s proposed changes.

Crazy Little Man Visits Campus, Runs?

Make no mistake: Dennis Kucinich wants to alter our culture - forcefully - through coercion and forced reeducation.

Curiouser and Curiouser

Like giddy schoolgirls donning their first prom dresses, we attacked the task of dress with the force only master drag queens could muster. After mastering the fine art of pantyhose (atop our boxers, no less) our focus turned to the habiliments of the fairer sex.

Men’s and Women’s Hockey Take Ivies

This past weekend, the men in green returned home to an invigorated Thompson Arena crowd. The great energy of the Hanover home ice advantage was back in full effect, as student and townie alike knew what was at stake. Seeming to will the Green to victory, the crowd witnessed Dartmouth take its first Ivy Title since, amazingly, 1980, when current head coach Bob Gaudet ’80 was between the pipes for the Green.

The Last Word

Optimism: The doctrine that everything is beautiful, including what is ugly, everything good, especially the bad, and everything right that is wrong... It is hereditary, but fortunately not contagious.

Editorial

You’re So Vain. But So Am I.

In 2002, Booz Allen Hamilton named Dartmouth one of the world’s Most Enduring Institutions, along with the United States Constitution and the Rockefeller Foundation, among others, for her ability to overcome adversity and resist outside pressures. In other words, try as you may, Dartmouth’s not going anywhere, and so long as she doesn’t lose sight of her mission, will not change drastically either.
