An Honest Man, A Good Cause

SIR—

This is my second letter to you, my name is VICTOR CARTER, I received a letter from a bank here requesting for the next of kin to my deceased client. The Letter stated that he made fixed deposit of some amount of money last two years before his death. The bank is aware of his death, though he was not married, neither did he leave a “WILL” nor Specified next of kin, the bank is anticipating someone with the same surname to come along for claims. As it is, no one can put up claims except someone with the same surname and referred from my office. All efforts to get his family relatives have been abortive. I solicit that you allow me introduce you as his relative based on the fact that you have the same surname. He was aged 56. He lived and worked here as a foreigner and requested to be buried here. Kindly let me know if you are interested so that I can give you further details and certain other documents to enable you contact the bank for release of the funds to you. I have spoken with the bank manager on this matter extensively and he is waiting for your introduction to the bank according to his directives. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us see this dealt through. I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law and will brief you on the details upon your response. Furthermore, in your response include

1;your telephone number for easy and official conversation.
2;Your age

New Columnist Draws Query

SIR—

Who is Cate Lunt? Her writing is very, very good. Unusually good. I would encourage her, disaffected though she may be, to cast off the pseudonym and earn the fame she deserves.

Jacob Baron ’10

Lunt responds: Who am I? Good question.

I’m a vase dangerously on the edge of a table, poised to shatter. I’m a guitar chord echoing through the night, waking up selfish suburbanites and rocking their limited world. I’m a soul skipping cheerfully on the heath of despair toward the tall-spired castle of progress. I’m the tingle you get in your spine when you realize you ought to be doing something about it. I’m a leaf on a tree, the eyebrow hair of an endangered species as it’s being murdered by a big-game hunter. I’m a fearless teller of truth to power. My poetry is my activism; my activism is my poetry. I’m in Ireland, in Lebanon, in Palestine, in Berkeley. I’m with you in Rockland. I am an activist and a womyn. I benefit from privilege, like we all do. Above all, though, I am a human being.

I hope that answers your question.

A Few Correx

SIR—

Nancy Pelosi, as Speaker of the House, is superior. Her leadership is restoring congressional-oversight and is bringing a new believability in our government. Her travels to other nations, demonstrates our nation’s soul and generosity.

This Administration, must relinquish all participation/control of the Iraq re-construction, so that our troops can leave. Poor business practices, denying participation of other nations in re-construction, incompetency, reluctant commanders, inhumane treatments, and assaults on our constitutional rights, loom large among its mistakes.

The goal for citizens now, is to grow a “veto-proof” congress, to overcome those/future mistakes. Seek and support, congressional candidates for the approaching primaries, who will make it so.
