In a continuation of previous years’ lackluster band selection, our dear College on Hill will be featuring the indie rock band GROUPLOVE as the headliner for this year’s Green Key.
Unfortunately, The Programming Board has “Ways to Go” before bringing a band that excites today’s students, rather than those who were here over a decade ago. While GROUPLOVE were once a popular band in 2012, they have since become a shell of their former glory. As such, those wishing to sing along may find themselves “Tongue Tied” after forgetting the band’s entire discography.
One has to wonder if Big Green has chosen to allocate the college’s $1.6 billion operating budget to everything except music worth hearing. With the College spending $500 million on its Climate Collaborative to reduce carbon emissions at Dartmouth, an extravagant money pit poised for public relations rather than actual carbon emission reduction, (see Issue 1 for more information) surely a fraction of a fraction of the budget would be better invested in allowing future alumni to make memories that would keep them donating to Dartmouth for decades.
Despite the lack of excitement to be found at the main concert, plenty of fun is still to be had. Green Key is a time-honored tradition, and lest the old traditions fail. Block Party, hosted by the brothers of Phi Delta Alpha, will still excite and delight many a student looking to enjoy Spring’s big weekend. After the concert, the brothers of Gamma Delta Chi will surely be hosting an event worth attending as well.
