SAE at Dartmouth condemns OU SAE.
In a campus wide blitz, Dartmouth’s chapter of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity condemned a recent viral video depicting members of the University of Oklahoma’s SAE chapter singing a song with racist slurs. “The people in OU’s [University of Oklahoma] chapter are not our brothers,” the blitz announces, “and we are appalled that the letters ‘SAE’ are attached to this incident.”
The blitz went on to announce SAE’s decision to host a “student-led discussion” regarding the incident on Wednesday, March 11th, at 7PM. The discussion will feature a panel of guest-speakers “from all walks of the Dartmouth community.”

Dear fellow members of the Dartmouth community,
By now, many of you may have seen the video clip of OU’s SAE chapter. In it, students make disgusting, racially charged slurs in a song.
What happened there is sickening. It goes against everything that we, as a house – and as members of the Dartmouth community – stand for. Racism is unacceptable and disgraceful. But as this incident has shown us, it is still alive and well in this country. The people in OU’s chapter are not our brothers, and we are appalled that the letters “SAE” are attached to this incident. However, we will not simply look the other way – we are determined to take this opportunity to highlight the bigoted, problematic mentalities that exist around us today.
On Wednesday, March 11th, at 7PM, we will host a student-led discussion to speak about the incident and, more broadly, discuss racial issues at Dartmouth (particularly as it pertains to the Greek system). Dinner will be served. Our panel of guest-speakers will include members from all walks of the Dartmouth community. Our hope is that, in speaking candidly about our different experiences at Dartmouth, we can achieve a greater mutual understanding, and in doing so take a step towards being the truly diverse, inclusive, and progressive institution that we aspire to be.
