With a packed arena on January 28, Dartmouth defeated Columbia 83-73 in spectacular fashion. Dame Adelekun, member of the glorious GDX, led the Big Green with 41 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 blocks. The impressive scoring broke the previous stadium record for most points scored by a player in one game. The win leaves Dartmouth with a 4-3 record within the Ivy League this season.

The game got off to a strong start in the first half. Dartmouth’s offense was strong, with Dame driving into the paint time after time, skillfully scoring field goals with ease. However, Columbia responded in turn, exploiting Dartmouth’s defense in order to take several open threes. The half ended neck in neck, with a score of 33-33.

Columbia crumbled in the second half. Seemingly fouling Dame out of frustration, they received their 6th defensive foul of the half with 12 minutes left on the clock. This led to Dartmouth taking a lead from the 1 and 1 shots given after subsequent fouls. Many of these fouls were drawn by Dame, for Columbia 23, a player guarding the super scorer, was expelled from the game after committing 5 personal fouls. The half contained a number of exciting moments, including a play in which Dame dunked for 2 and then went on to slap a shot harder than a drunk man with a wifebeater on the proceeding defense. While the refs went on to call it a foul, the defense maneuver was closer to the wrath of God.
