CNN Money recently released its annual “Best Places to Live” list and Dartmouth’s little town, Hanover, New Hampshire, has found itself positioned at number 6. Though CNN Money doesn’t release its algorithm for deciding which locales make the cut, the description of Hanover cites its low unemployment (almost half the state average), and educational opportunities as major factors in its high placement. Though the blurb notes expensive housing and “fraternity-style rowdiness” of students as potential downsides to Hanover, its placement at number six on the list shows just how little these factors must count in CNN Money’s metric.
Speaking as someone who lives in Hanover an average of nine months per year, I’m not sure I would classify it as the sixth-best place to live in America. Then again, my priorities are probably a little different than CNN Money’s readership.
