Dartmouth Custodian Arrested for Laptop Thefts

Since the beginning of February, 22 laptops have been stolen from inside Baker-Berry Library. Yesterday, police executed a sting operation inside the library.

Hanover Police Chief Nick Giaccone explained, “The plan was to put a laptop in place in the library where we can observe it and see if one of our suspects would take it.”

The sting operation led to the arrests of library custodian Michael Phillips, 25, of White River Junction, VT., and Heather Lewis, a 25-year old woman from Barnard, VT. Phillips is no longer employed by the College, police said. Some of the stolen laptops have been found for sale on Craigslist. 12 of the 22 laptops have been recovered.
