Dartmouth’s own Madison Hughes ’15 has been selected to captain the USA Men’s Eagles Sevens as the national team prepares for the 2014-2015 IRB HSBC Sevens World Series, a series of rugby sevens tournaments that will determine the first set of qualifiers for the 2016 Olympics.
Head Coach Mike Friday spoke very highly of Hughes performance on and off the pitch in an interview with USARugby.org:
“Madison is a selfless player who has both the respect of the squad and the ability,” Friday said. “He is not a shouter but understands the game and speaks with authority, calmness, and clarity on what he wants from the boys and has shown the leadership in driving the squad in what we are looking to achieve with the ball and without the ball.”
Hughes will lead the USA Eagles in their season opener against Canada on Friday, October 10, at 6:12 P.M. ET. The game will be broadcast on Universal Sports and live match updates will be updated on Twitter @USARugby.
