Suck it up, Smith

Humphrey lost to Benson in the gubernatorial primary but is still decent enough to urge voters to support Republicans who made the ballot. Here’s an e-mail I received Monday. Smith remains silent.

Dear Friends,

As one who has supported Bob Smith in every election, I write with the following urgent plea: Please do not help Jeanne Shaheen by writing in the name of Bob Smith or the name of any candidate or by voting for the Libertarian candidate for U.S. Senate. Please vote for John Sununu. A vote for anyone except John Sununu is a vote for Shaheen.

All the polls show this race is a dead-heat. The eyes of America are on New Hampshire once again. Just as New Hampshire made the difference in electing George Bush as President over Al Gore two years ago, we can make an historic difference by sending John Sununu to the United States Senate, where he will help the Republican Party re-establish a majority in that body and where, unlike Jeanne Shaheen, he will be an ally of our wonderful President.

Control of the United States Senate is in the balance, and President Bush needs your help and mine in keeping New Hampshire’s Senate seat out of the Democrat’s hands.

John Sununu deserves your vote on Tuesday, November 5th. He is committed to our conservative Republican principles of lower taxes, limited but effective government, local control, and personal responsibility, and to protecting the rights that we cherish. New Hampshire can’t afford to promote the failed leadership of Jeanne Shaheen to the U.S. Senate, where she will vote with Tom Daschle and the liberal special interest groups.

Between now and election day, I ask you to talk to as many friends and neighbors as you can, and remind them of the importance of getting out to vote on Tuesday. Together we can reach tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of voters with personal contact, energize the people of New Hampshire, and deliver a Republican victory.

Best regards,

Gordon Humphrey
