A Young Person’s Perspective: An Interview with Alex Bruesewitz

The following is an interview from February 2022 between Digital Editor of The Review Lintaro Donovan (TDR) and Alex Bruesewitz, co-founder of political consulting firm X Strategies, which seeks to ”help advance the ideals that make this country great with an agenda and platform that puts our nation first.” Bruesewitz, who founded the firm at 19 years of age, made headlines earlier in the year for his conflicts with the House of Representatives’ January 6 committee and his efforts to help pay for the legal defense of accused Capitol rioters. The consultant also caused a stir on campus when he served as part of a Dartmouth College Republicans panel featuring local congressional candidate Karole Leavitt and Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) on “The Future of the Republican Party” last October.

TDR: What do you think about Republican prospects in 2022?

AB: It’s an absolute disgrace.

Our state legislatures have been pathetic on redistricting efforts. We’re letting one corrupt attorney named Marc Elias, who is responsible for the Russian collusion witch hunt hoax, just absolutely destroy us in redistricting. We should have an absolutely massive red wave in 2022, but because of our failure to play ball redistricting, it’s gonna be a very close majority.

And if it is a close majority, that’s not going to play so well for Kevin McCarthy. The smaller the majority, the less likely it is for Kevin McCarthy to become Speaker of the House. He should have been on the front lines more, fighting for redistricting efforts.

Republicans need to wake the heck up and do something about what’s happening.

TDR: What role do you see campus conservatism playing in the next several election cycles?

AB: It’s incredibly important. Organizations like Students for Trump, Turning Point USA, the College Republicans—that’s where the fight is right now. For 30 years, 40 years, we’ve conceded everything to the universities. They’re just safe havens for Democrats and liberals to indoctrinate the next generation.

I know it’s tough being a conservative on a college campus, but you got to stay true to your beliefs. Don’t let them bully you into submission and into their crazy ideas. Stay strong and start pushing back against their narratives and start questioning. And hopefully open the eyes of your classmates.

TDR: If you were in charge of a College Republicans chapter, what would you be doing with it?

AB: I’d be shouting down my teachers telling ’em that they’re dumb.

No, I’m kidding. I really don’t know. I have never thought about that.

TDR: If you were in charge of the American conservative movement, what would you be doing to win?

AB: Well, I would be getting rid of RINOs. I would say, if you don’t support these values—I don’t care if you’re in a R+1 seat or a D+1 seat—that these are the Republican values. This is what we stand for. And if you don’t stand for each and every one of these values right now, there’s no room for you in our movement. And I say that not because I’m against other ideas, but we’ve seen those other ideas and they’ve failed. And President Trump’s America First agenda is the agenda that we’re gonna take our country back with.

And if we don’t have a team that is aligned with us 100%, it’s gonna be bad because right now we’re not only fighting against the Democrats, but we’re fighting a very small majority within, and we can’t have that anymore.

If you’re not on our team, then you have to get out. And Republican leadership needs to set that down. They need to say, get on board or get lost. And Republican voters are desperately crying for that message. Hopefully, leadership will wake up.

  1. Marc Elias is not corrupt. Republicans are trying to rig the November elections to stop Democrats
Kevin McCarthy is a pathological liar engaged in a poor cover-up attempt to whitewash the Trump attack on the Capitol
    Russian collusion witch hunt hoax?
the trump campaign colluded with Russia in 2016
Manafort gave campaign data to his Russian agent friend Kilimnik
trump people had over 100 meetings with Russians
    trump campaign welcomed the help
read the Mueller Report and the Senate report
RINO’s are people who believe the 2020 election was secure and Biden won fair and square

  2. ”help advance the ideals that make this country great with an agenda and platform that puts our nation first.”

Just write MAGA and save the space and effort. We get it. He’s a Trump sycophant spouting the same tired generalizations and bumper sticker BS.

  3. Didn’t hear any actual solutions, etc. Just grievance.

The future of the Republican party looks bleak and authoritarian…

  5. I think Marc Elias should sue Bruesewitz for defamation. Elias and his team are national heroes. First for fighting Trump’s false election claims in court and winning 50 cases and now fighting for fair districting. Elias sued Republicans and Democrats who tried to put forth illegally gerrymandered maps. What Americans want are all districts to be fairly drawn, not giving unfair advantage to one side or the other.

Not once did Mr. Donovan spell out the GOP agenda, not even the broad strokes. It’s just the GOP way or the highway__no specifics. What’s clear is that the GOP no longer believes in democracy.

  7. Although Mr. Bruesewitz is thin on details, I can’t imagine wanting to be part of any group that insists on 100% alignment. This reads like dystopian horror.

  8. this interview was terrible, and shame on dartmouth for allowing it to be published under it’s banner
