Basketball: Dartmouth Defeats Princeton

On February 11, Dartmouth beat Princeton, who earlier on in the season won against Dartmouth, 83-76. The revenge was sweet, as Princeton played a physical game that the refs refused to call them on. The win leaves Dartmouth with a seasonal record of 5-5 within the Ivy League.

The game began with Dartmouth drawing first blood from a few foul shots. Quickly, our Big Green got off to a 10-point lead. Unfortunately, the Tigers struck back with a successful set of shots, developing a lead later on. The half ended with Princeton in the lead 40-35.

The second half got off to an aggressive start. Princeton elected to double-team Dartmouth’s ball carrier several times throughout the first few minutes of the half. After several egregious shoves, charges, and slaps from the Tigers, the referees elected to start calling fouls on Dartmouth! Never have I ever seen such a blatant bias in my life, except perhaps for Dominion voting machines (for legal reasons, that’s a joke). This led Dartmouth to rack up 6 fouls within the first 10 minutes of the half, beginning 1 and 1 shots for subsequent fouls.

While Dartmouth found themselves in a tough situation halfway through the second half, they managed to clinch victory from the jaws of defeat. The Big Green managed to draw so many fouls that the count was 10 for both teams, leading to foul shots off of every foul! The subsequent play was jarring, as a number of foul shots and full-court presses left possession of the ball to bounce back and forth between the two teams. Luckily, the sturdy sons of Dartmouth came out ahead.
