The Robert L. Blackman Head Football Coach Eugene F. “Buddy” Teevens ’79 tragically passed away on September 19 following complications from a biking accident that occurred in the spring. He was 66.

Teevens played quarterback for Dartmouth during his undergraduate years, during which time he led the team to an Ivy League Conference Title in 1978. He would go on to coach at DePauw University, Boston University, and the University of Maine before returning to Dartmouth.

Teevens took the team from a 2-8 record in 1987 to back-to-back Ivy League conference titles in 1990 and 1991. He then took time away from the College on the Hill. He coached at Tulane, the University of Illinois, the University of Florida, and Stanford before he made a second return to Dartmouth. The rest is history: Teevens went on to take the team to conference titles in 2015, 2019, and 2021.

The Dartmouth Community celebrated Teevens’ life on September 23 with a moment of silence before Dartmouth’s first home game of the season, against Lehigh. A gathering of remembrance was held on the Green Saturday evening after the game. Teevens leaves behind his wife, Kirsten, along with his two children, Lindsay and Eugene IV.
