Softball: Doubleheader vs. Harvard

HANOVER, NH — On April 8, the Big Green went 1-1 against the Harvard Crimson in softball. The first game was won 2-1 by Dartmouth after seven scoreless innings. The second game was lost 10-4 after Harvard scored seven runs in the first inning alone. The double header leaves Dartmouth with a 9-15 record and 4-4 conference record at this point in the season.

The first game was uneventful to say the least. The first seven innings were scoreless! During the extra eighth inning, the Harvard Crimson were able to score the first run of the game. But the Big Green were able to respond with two runs in turn, winning the game and leading to a cheer so loud that it almost certainly struck awe into even the proudest of Harvard’s fans. However, Harvard’s players themselves were apparently left unphased.

Harvard struck back in the second game by scoring seven runs in the first inning. Dartmouth was able to respond with three runs, with back-to-back hits from second baseman Ashley Frantz and center fielder Lauren Ben-Ezra as well a homerun from catcher Mary Beth Cahalahan. But Dartmouth’s efforts proved insufficient as Harvard managed to add to its lead and largely stymie Dartmouth throughout the rest of the game.

While a tied game record invariably leaves no one satisfied, the result improved Dartmouth’s win-loss percentage for the season. Those excited to watch the team play should attend the final home game against Princeton at 12:30 pm on April 30.
