MKTO: What is the College Doing?

MKTO | Teen Vogue

The pop and hip-hop duo MKTO will be opening at this fine Ivy League institution’s annual music celebration. This band does have one or two popular songs. Whether one considers them a one hit wonder or a two-hit wonder is a matter of debate. Their most popular song and perhaps only their real hit is the song “classic.” While the urge to complain about not having more renowned artists at Green Key is strong, as the magnificent and knowledgeable Michael Knowles put, “Hanover is in the middle of nowhere.” This would be a good excuse; however, Dartmouth’s location does not exactly explain how the very low-prestige university Cornell managed to get the Chainsmokers to go to their music festival.
Perhaps Dartmouth is yet to learn that if they would like to gain publicity for admissions, they need to pay artists more money. Perhaps they could have used some of the $200 million they wasted drilling holes into Granite for climate initiatives to invest in the public appearance benefit of having a Green Key with an actually popular artist. If we only had a fraction of the aura as Yale, who hosted Ken Carson, who performed “Yale” live on campus. Even Tufts hosted our main event (Grouplove) as their opener. Dartmouth cannot expect to distinguish itself among the T20 universities if it is continually getting upstaged by its peer institutions. Perhaps more of the endowement ought to be allocated to the Programming Board.
